Montreal, September 25, 2019 – Despite the fact that François Legault’s government kept its promise to file a bill on electoral reform by October 1, it is the view of the Fédération autonome de l’enseignement (FAE) that the Prime Minister and Sonia Lebel, his minister in charge of the project, display a lack of political courage by proposing their bill be relegated to a referendum –– instead of finalizing a comprehensive reform before the end of their first term in office, as they had promised during the campaign.

Montreal, September 25, 2019 – The Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec (FTQ) is very disappointed in Bill 39, which proposes a reform of the voting system. The bill would push back the first election conducted under proportional representation to 2026 at the earliest, and it makes the change dependent upon the outcome of a referendum on the ballot at the same time as the next general election.
